AE Live has had the pleasure of building out the SA20 on-screen graphics and accompanying title sequences for the previous few years. For the 2025 rendition, a new and expanded identity system from the client required a bold rethinking in how the on-screen graphics were crafted and how they behaved in motion. I brought my expertise to the table in both the layout and motion design spheres; dressing 2025 in a vibrant, punchy and graphical motion livery.
Two in-your-face ‘X’s centre themselves in every spur of this system, and operate at the heart of the motion system as activation devices. The static ‘pulse’ outlined in the visual identity crosses borders to become a motion mechanic, sharply flashing to attract viewer attention to the centre of displayed information. This sharp ‘on’ mechanic is paired with a harmonious ‘waterfall’ of successive information, releasing the tension of the animation for a balanced resolve.
At the close of this project, the final motion system and graphics package for SA2025 feels at home amongst its sister systems of previous years, whilst morphing into a more vectorised skin. Prioritising percussive, yet balance animated beats, it strikes a lovely middle-ground of refinement and youth.
